We’ve been diving into the responses to our audience survey, and I have to say — it’s been fascinating to see what’s on your minds. Responses are starting to come in, but there's still plenty of room for more input.
Here’s what we’re learning:
- Farmers, journalists, researchers, and advocates are all chiming in, and I love seeing this mix of voices. Whether you’re working the land or digging into data, you’re shaping the conversation.
- Small farm struggles, corporate consolidation, and pesticide use are among the biggest concerns. These are issues we’re already deep into, but your responses show just how critical they are to the communities we serve.
- Most of you keep up with us via email (which makes this a perfect place to update you!), but we’ve also got folks following along on social media and our website.
- There’s demand for behind-the-scenes investigative updates and deep dives into agriculture issues—we hear you! We’re already thinking about how to bring more of this to you in a meaningful way.
- Underreported issues? Many of you pointed to pesticide regulation, corporate influence, and farmworker conditions. One response in particular stuck with me—someone called out how pesticide laws are enforced at the state level and how much corporate lobbying shapes those decisions. It’s a good reminder of why investigative reporting on agriculture matters.
