We grew a bit this year by expanding our staff, our reach and producing original stories and investigations on matters that deeply affect our food system.
We added a state government reporter, based in Illinois and focused on agriculture policy made by state legislators, many of whom are enormously influenced by industry lobbyists and the large corporate entities they represent. Why does this matter? Because safe, quality food that is produced ethically, sustainably and available to all is a growing concern across the country, in your state, in your own town. State-level agriculture policy plays a significant role in an equitable food system wherever you live.
Funding to build, sustain, and expand this coverage is critical to its success. You can help secure its long-term future as well as all our other work. In fact, as part of NewsMatch 2024, we’re fortunate to have an additional boost through a generous match from The Joyce Foundation. With the addition of this match, people have the opportunity to triple their donation up to $9,000 — matched once by the NewsMatch national fund and again by The Joyce Foundation.
We are challenging ourselves to raise a total of $20,000 during our year-end campaign, which, with matches from the Rural Fund, Newsmatch and The Joyce Foundation, it could mean close to $50,000 to support vital reporting.
