The team got word of exciting news late last week: Investigate Midwest has qualified to receive an additional match from the Joyce Foundation as part of NewsMatch 2024. With this, up to $9,000 in matching funds will be available, doubling the impact of the first $9,000 we raise — matched once by the NewsMatch national fund and again by the Joyce Foundation.
This boost comes at a critical time. In many places across the U.S., communities are losing news sources and the journalists they once counted on. Independent, fact-based journalism like ours is crucial. By providing investigative, data-driven and nuanced reporting on agriculture — especially agribusiness conglomerates and industrial agriculture — we fill in gaps left by shuttered media outlets across the U.S. We exist to serve as a watchdog on important issues that we all care about.
And just as we covered President Joe Biden’s administration, we’ll be with you every step of the way, keeping a close eye on how a second-term Donald Trump might impact key agriculture policies affecting farmers, rural communities, agricultural laborers, the environment, and the food we eat.
During this election season, we reported on:
- The impact industry consolidation continues to have on small ag producers
- The ripple effect the election results may have on migrant and immigrant workers
- How a second term under Trump could dramatically shift climate change policies, reversing course from the Biden administration's approach
- The country’s 50 state ag secretaries and the overwhelmingly lack of diverse representation
- How tariff policy could change export markets and trade stability
