Maybe you're wondering: How does my donation to a news organization help? We'd like to give you an answer.
- Among the stories we’ve done in 2023 is a piece examining the link between three widely used pesticides and endangered species being driven closer to extinction.
This reporting revealed three neonicotinoids threaten more than 200 endangered species — more than 1 in 10 protected species — with extinction, according to an analysis by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
This includes bees and other pollinators, plants and animals, such as the rusty patched bumblebee and the Attwater's greater prairie chicken.
- The chemicals, sprayed on more than 4 million acres of crops across the United States, including cotton, soybeans, grains, fruits, vegetables, and nuts, also are polluting waterways and showing up in people’s bodies. (The link for the full story is at the end of this message.)
