Help us kick off NewsMatch 2025!

Nov. 1, 2025

When our Oklahoma-based reporter Juan Vassallo revealed how Tyson Foods exploited a loophole to pump millions of gallons of water without oversight in Oklahoma, it showed exactly why nonprofit watchdog journalism matters. Stories like this take time, persistence, and a commitment to public accountability — values we can only uphold with community support.

Today we’re kicking off our biggest fundraiser of the year: NewsMatch, a nationwide campaign to support nonprofit journalism. There’s never been a more critical time to protect independent newsrooms like ours — we provide an essential public service examining America’s food system and holding Big Ag accountable for the impacts on our land, labor, water and public health. From now until Dec. 31, we have an opportunity to boost the impact of donations to Investigate Midwest, which will help power our newsroom into 2026.

Here’s how it works:

The NewsMatch, Rural Partner Fund and the Joyce Foundation will match your new monthly donation 12 times or triple your one-time gift, all up to $1,000.

That means that, through this campaign, we can earn up to $28,000 in matching funds from folks like you.

As an Investigate Midwest member, you already know the value of our work. Thank you. If you’re able to pitch in a little extra in the spirit of NewsMatch and in an effort to bolster independent journalism, we’d be so grateful.

If you’ve been thinking about becoming a donor to Investigate Midwest, this is the best time to do it. Your support will get our NewsMatch campaign off to a solid start and help keep us going strong.

If you’ve supported Investigate Midwest in the past, thank you. As NewsMatch begins, this is the perfect moment to renew your support. Your gift today will be tripled.

You’ve seen the difference our coverage makes — holding power to account, uncovering untold stories, and keeping you informed. Now, we need you with us to keep it going.

Thank you for believing in us, and for your patience with extra messages during this critical moment.

With gratitude,

Erin Orr

Executive Director, Investigate Midwest

P.S. NewsMatch only runs through Dec. 31! Give now to ensure your gift is matched and your impact is tripled.

Investigate Midwest relies on donations, and fundraisers like this one, to exist. We appreciate your patience with extra emails during these times. Thanks for being a part of the Investigate Midwest community.
