Dec. 31, 2025
We know that when independent, local news thrives, so, too, does our community. If you feel the same way, and our reporting makes a difference to you, consider chipping in before our NewsMatch campaign ends at midnight tonight. (And to everyone who has already given, a big THANK YOU. If you are willing to chip in just a bit more, we’d be ever so grateful.)
Since Nov. 1, we’ve been inviting you to support the work of Investigate Midwest as part of our annual Newsmatch campaign. Now, I'd like to give you a preview of what your support means for 2026.
Pesticides and cancer. Cancer rates are on the rise across the agricultural Heartland and growing scientific research points to pesticides as one of the potential reasons. In the coming months, we will feature a series of stories examining this public health crisis and the powerful forces working to curb further regulation of the agrichemical industry.

Immigrant farmworkers. This past year, we reported on President Trump’s deportation efforts and the impact this has had on farms, meatpacking plants and food warehouses. That reporting continues as we prepare to take a closer look at the farmworkers being swept up and why it’s putting the nation’s food system at risk.
State government. Some of the most critical agriculture policy decisions are made at the state level, and 2026 is a year when Investigate Midwest is increasing its focus on state capitols across the Midwest. As dozens of legislative sessions get underway in the coming weeks, you’ll see more watchdog state government accountability stories not only shining a light on local decisions, but also highlighting national trends.
Work on these and other stories is well underway and I’m excited by the momentum our newsroom is carrying into the new year. 2026 is shaping up to be a consequential year for Investigate Midwest, and our mission to deliver in-depth and data-driven investigative journalism is fueled by your support.
The good news is that we have met our initial goal thanks to more than 130 of our supporters pitching in. But we’re giving ourselves one more challenge: To hit our stretch goal of $30,000 by midnight. We know we can do this — with your help.
Whether you start a monthly donation or make a one-time gift, your generosity allows us to deliver even more of the difference-making local reporting we know you value.
Our reporting keeps you informed about what’s happening in the U.S ag sector and our food system. Your donation makes it possible. What do you say?
Thank you so much, and we look forward to delivering another year of reporting on the issues that matter.
With gratitude,
Executive Director
