Dear friends of Investigate Midwest:
We’re so excited about 2024. The gifts you give during our NewsMatch campaign will help set us up for success for the year ahead — sustaining the kind of reporting you’ve come to expect from us — and allowing us to set our sites even higher.
Here are six things to know about our plans for 2024:
1. Stories from reporters Ben Felder (top photo) and John McCracken (second from top) that take a close look at the impact concentrated animal feeding operations — or CAFOS — have on residential neighbors and the environment.
2. Enterprise reporting on agriculture policy at the state level and its impact on our food system.
3. Deep data analysis and stories on the Mississippi River Basin by Mónica Cordero (third photo), our Report for America corps member, and partner members of the Mississippi River Basin Ag & Water Desk.
4. Ongoing investigative work and mapping of migrant farmworker housing throughout the country by reporter and assistant editor Sky Chadde (fourth photo).
5. Expert agribusiness analysis and opinion by Dave Dickey, a veteran ag reporter who pens a regular column.
6. In-person events: I am excited to continue the ones we have established, and to grow new events and partnerships, with even more fun for all who attend!
Without you, these are just plans. With you, we can turn this list into reality.
