U.S. family farm households in 2020 received [$4.3 billion in federal pandemic aid](https://www.ers.usda.gov/data-products/chart-gallery/gallery/chart-detail/?chartId=102506&ref=investigatemidwest.org) from Economic Impact Payments, known as stimulus payments, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

All family farm households got an estimated $2,167 on average in stimulus payments in 2020.

The amount farms received varied by tax filing status. Households that filed as single received an average of $924, while head of household filers got $2,408 and joint filers got $2,466.

The disparity, according to the USDA’s Economic Research Service, reflects the lower income threshold for single households. This resulted in some single filers not receiving the maximum stimulus payment or not getting it at all.

The research service estimated that 18% of single households did not receive stimulus payments, compared to 17% of head of household filers and 13% of joint filers.

The U.S. agricultural sector, according to the USDA, received an estimated [$35 billion](https://www.ers.usda.gov/amber-waves/2021/september/u-s-agriculture-sector-received-an-estimated-35-billion-in-covid-19-related-assistance-in-2020/?ref=investigatemidwest.org) in pandemic assistance in 2020\. In addition to Economic Impact Payments, family farms got $1.3 billion in Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation for a total of $5.6 billion in aid.
